Bug update for Paranormal Puzzle Society

Last night we discovered a critical bug in the scoring system for Paranormal Puzzle Society. We pushed out an update late last night to fix this issue so all scores from now on should be legitimate. We hope to have a bug report system in place soon so if anyone discovered bugs and glitches while playing they can report it to us for fixing in the next update. Thanks to everyone who pointed out this error in particular.

Back from the crunch

A quick post to everyone that we’re back from the crunch for the 2010 Independent Games Festival! We’ve submitted a newer build of Paranormal Puzzle Society to the competition this year with features we’re hoping to roll over to the public release shortly (check out the submission page here).

And what are these features? These new features include a couple of things we’ve been wanting to get in for a while. Things like player accounts, new gameplay modes like a full-fledged RPG/adventure quest, and new puzzle types to freshen up the game considerably. As these features get rolled out in the coming weeks we’ll spend a little more time talking about the motivations behind each one. We’ll also be starting a series on the development of the Paranormal Puzzle Society which was first “imagined” over 2 years ago now and has gone through drastic changes over time.

So thanks again to everyone who’s been playing and enjoying Paranormal Puzzle Society. We look forward to divulging more news and insights soon.

New Paranormal Puzzle Society release (0.8.4)

img_0840_091023

Last night we pushed out the latest release for Paranormal Puzzle Society. This latest build contains a bevy of new features and changes.

    Gameplay changes:

  • Board now automatically shuffles when no valid matches are available on the board.
  • Tiles now pop in order with a slight delay between each tile.
  • Using the shuffle button now slightly increases the chance for a locked tile to spawn. This increased chance decays over time.
  • Scoring in endless mode has been changed significantly. Both combos and chains now have higher base scores with lower bonuses for scoring.
  • Players are now rewarded with score bonuses with each new level and for clearing the board entirely.
  • Time bonuses no longer are affected by the current level.
    Visual/audio changes:

  • Backgrounds have been completely overhauled to include new moving elements and cityscapes.
  • GUI elements have been rearranged to better fit the tweaked visuals.
  • New animations have been added for the player character Odille.
  • Odille will now talk during gameplay.
  • Sounds have been added for tile pops, bomb explosions, and board shuffling.
    Misc. changes:

  • Main menu has been altered to include a second page for secondary menu choices.

From this point forward we expect to be pushing out updates on a regular basis. Feel free to leave feedback on the game in our comments section!
